I had a small number of toy guns as a child of the fifties, but never owned a firearm as an adult. I now see many younger relatives arming their children with guns as Christmas presents. The country is obsessed with these things.

Mr. Davidson's video history of the American toy gun from the ad angle tells its story with authority. I wonder at what precise moment in the decades after WWII toy guns became stigmatized as politically incorrect and were frowned on in the classroom and widely banned? Something tells me the influence of Dr. Benjamin Spock may have payed a major role in all this.
