The Columbine Tragedy - 25 Years Later
This week we honor those lost and the survivors of one of the darkest days in American history.
Today, April 20, 2024, is the 25th Anniversary of the horrific Columbine High School mass shooting in Littleton, Colorado.
That tragedy is widely regarded as the first major mass shooting at an American school. A shocking outlier at the time, it has sadly led to copycat shooters, school shooting drills as commonplace, and the resultant “Generation Lockdown” — a generation-plus of children who have grown up with the possibility of such horror as a real daily possibility.
But there have also been lessons learned; stories of bravery, growth, and activism; and even hope in the face of the powerful pro-gun lobby and the gun epidemic it has engendered in our country. We can best honor the 13 lost that day by staying strong and taking whatever actions we can to end the scourge of gun violence.
This past week we tried to add to the many tributes and reflections on this dour date.
