It blows my mind that anyone in America could compare the social desirability of DGU’s with that for cocaine use! Ignoring the distinction between legally and morally justifiable DGU’s and unjustifiable ones throws the whole study into question for me. I think back to a Florida newspaper that examined the details and circumstances of Stand Your Ground cases and found more than half were unjustifiable. The problem there is that, in cases where the victim died, the word of the shooter is all that remains. Society as a whole should have very different opinions of “desirability” depending if the DGU was legal or justifiable.
