Throughout this Suicide Prevention Month, we have been featuring stories centered around this growing problem in America.
Today’s GVPanorama piece, from the New York Times, is a very personal story from a place, Montana, whose “suicide rate has been the highest in the U.S. for the past three years.” It’s an emotional and informative article that shows once again that, while school shootings and big city gun violence get most of the headlines, the majority of gun deaths come from suicide. And the fallout for family and friends gets even less attention.
“There have been more gun suicides than gun homicides in the United States every year for the past 25 years. Yet the harm inflicted on communities by suicides rarely registers in the national debate over guns.”
