While on the search for recent gun violence prevention news for our weekly "Friday Finds” feature, we often come across editorials, personal stories, or wider-lens articles that don’t necessarily fit into a “current events” window. With “GVPanorama” we will highlight some of these thought-provoking pieces.
In this excellent piece from Psychology Today, the three authors — from Atlanta Behavioral Health Advocates of Emory University — construct a clear, concise takedown of the various common excuses for gun violence, often couched in myths about “mental illness.” They describe how “gun violence is explained by a variety of factors, rather than one simple, reductionist explanation,” and offer suggestions for what psychologists themselves can do to help stem our gun violence epidemic.
