GVPanorama: Keeping Our Schools Safe
Practical and empowering advice from the American Federation of Teachers
It’s that time of year again — back to school. In the last week, we’ve tried to highlight some informative articles centered on the sadly increasing concern of school shootings and preparedness for such.
The good news (such as it is) is that school shootings have abated a bit so far this year. Ideally, we would be on the Congressional road to common sense gun reform to continue to eradicate these concerns. But until that happens, it behooves parents everywhere to stay abreast of how they can help keep their kids and communities safe in the face of this particularly American plight.
A hat tip today to a recent Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Violence Solutions newsletter that pointed us to this excellent checklist from the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), the country’s second largest teachers union. It includes loads of resources like fact sheets, statistics, safe storage info, videos, AFT’s resolutions, and much more.
Think of it as a digital Trapper Keeper packed with all you’ll need to assuage your fears as the school year sets in.
