October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Over the course of this month, we will be highlighting domestic violence issues related to firearm access.
Today’s GVPanorama find is an impressive ProPublica piece from August that details the struggles of domestic violence victims to get justice in Tennessee amid the state’s tradition-bound courtrooms that favor male defendants and gun owners.
Framed with a terrifying story of gun violence survival, this article examines the deficiencies in Tennessee’s domestic violence laws; the battle to enforce them in rural counties with judges so moored to gun rights; and the success of Scott County’s efforts to enforce the laws as an example for other such municipalities.
