While on the search for recent gun violence prevention news for our weekly "Friday Finds” feature, we often come across editorials, personal stories, or wider-lens articles that don’t necessarily fit into a “current events” window. With GVPanorama we highlight some of these thought-provoking pieces. Today’s comes from FOX 13 in Tampa Bay.
This is the story of Maress Scott, a St. Petersburg, Florida father who lost his teenage son to gun violence. Mr. Maress now hosts sessions to engage the community to stop gun violence. It’s an example of turning the darkest sadness into a light of hope.
I talk with them about adopting a nonviolent lifestyle, letting them know the benefits of mental wellness. It is important to us. And arm them with some tools that allow them to walk away from situations that may lead to violence.
